![]() Great Western is a bay type beach that is sheltered by high cliffs, rocky inlets and steps to various hotels. During high water Great Western is a small cove like beach but when the tide is out it joins with Towan and Tolcarne producing a large open beach. It is exposed to moderate Atlantic swells that can create surf. Access Can be accessed via a concrete walk down between the Barracuda nightclub and the Great Western Hotel. There is good disabled access and a private lift which descends through the cliffs from the Great Western Hotel. Swimming & Surfing One up from Towan in wave size, this breaks best on a mid tide, a good right and a left breaks infront of the rocks and can handle up to about 4ft. Facilities Beach Life Guards from 21st May to 25th September, Shop, Café, Toilets (including Disabled toilet), Showers, Surfboard and Deck Chair Hire, Reef Surf School. Parking No parking on beach but plenty of car parks in Newquay. Dog Friendly Dogs allowed all year. Back to Beach Map |
